****What makes a calligraphy pen left handed?
A left hander usually experiences problems with even a normal fountain pen nib scratching and digging into the paper, which is even more exaggerated with a calligraphy pen, where the nibs tend to be wider. It is therefore important that the nibs are cut off in the correct direction so that a left hander can write with them , that the end of the nib is flat on the paper and that the letter thickness is not the wrong way around!
 
What is Italic Writing:The graceful Italic alphabet evolved during the Renaissance. It is characterized by a gentle slope to the right and the letters are compressed so that round letters form an ellipse rather than a circle. Proportions are: Capital height 7 nib widths, x-height of 8 nib widths. For most Italic hands the pen nib should be held at a 45 degree angle to the writing line.

In the past I have taken a calligraphy class and wondered why I was having a hard time. I stumbled onto this site and realized that there was such a pen for left handed persons.
It was just what I needed and I am pleased.

I needed my enigneer husband to figure out how to put the pen together because the directions were very brief and not to the point.
