Useful tool for creating a sufficient flame to melt spoon wax.

About this Product
3" Hurricane-style  Lamp - a unique  Mini version that  is just the right size and look for a Desk Accessory when you need to melt down individual spoonfuls of wax over it's flame . Just lift the glass cover, fill the reservoir on the bottom with Lamp Oil  or denatured alcohol (easily obtained in any grocery store or hardware store), move the wick with the side dial into the oil or alcohol to get a sufficient amount onto your the wick and  then proceed to light it. The result is a clean and easy burn without any smoke. Adjusting the height of the wick will also enable you to adjust the strength of the flame. It is recommended that you extinguish the flame with a snuffer or simply blow it out.

Caution: Not recommended for Children. Always exercise care and caution when dealing with an open flame.

Leaks a little December 13, 2011

Once I figured this out it worked well. The oil reservoir does not screw shut well so I had to re-tighten and wipe down the lamp a couple times after filling it. The glass chimney part took some work to pop off, but I was able to ease it off the base with no damage. I'd say you really shouldn't light the lamp and then replace the chimney, as the bottom brass clip to the chimney doesn't allow for enough air flow, so the flame reaches up to the top of the chimney.

Smaller than you think! November 13, 2011
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from St. Louis, MO United States
I got the lamp, thinking "Yes, this is small, but perhaps it can be used for more than just for sealing wax"

Sadly, I was wrong. This lamp is shorter than a Pilot V5 pen and to give a good visual, it is the perfect size for a marionette puppet.

Don't get me wrong, it is a great lamp for melting wax, but that is all it is good for.
