What is an inverted Ice Stamp? An Ice Stamp is much like a Wax Seal Stamp, except for the fact that the
art is engraved in Reverse so that the Engraving is debossed into the
ice rather than embossed and raised as in wax. Since Ice is a hard
surface, the impression must be debossed into the ice, which is the
opposite of a wax seal stamp, where the wax rises into the engraving on
the stamp and creates a raised impression. In the artwork example below, the left example is the artwork for an Ice Stamp-on the right is the wax seal stamp. Black areas are what is engraved.
In addition, such a stamp needs to be engraved at twice the normal depth, in order to make a clear impression. Artwork Guidelines Tips and Hints: The
best outcome for this type of stamp is on art that is bold and has
thick lines or overall patterns. If it is a logo, putting a border
around the logo helps define the space. Artwork with thin lines will not
come out and will not last as long in ice as artwork with wider lines
or bigger patterns. This is particularly true when it comes to text. Any
Artwork with small thin text is not considered suitable for this type
of stamp. IF YOUR ARTWORK IS NOT DEEMED SUITABLE FOR YOUR STAMP WE WILL ADVISE YOU AND TRY TO GIVE YOU OPTIONS IF POSSIBLE, BUT THE ABOVE GUIDELINES SHOULD BE KEPT IN MIND.
For uses other than as Ice Stamps, the artwork can be somewhat more ornate.
Why is an Ice Stamp more expensive? Because of the extra depth required and the fact that in most cases much more of the stamp is cut away than in a traditional wax seal stamp, the engraving time on the machine is more than double or triple the normal time and therefore more costly. How does it work? Start with some clean crystal clear even sided ice cubes for best results, and very simply press the stamp onto the ice and it will leave an impression! If you are making lots of impressions in a row, it is recommended that you heat up the stamp between each impression with a heating tool or over a flame, or res ton a warm surface, as the brass will cool along the way. Heat a little but not too much- it should not get hot or even too warm-just a little goes a long way.
We also want to emphasize that the clearer the Ice is, the better the outcome.Low Quality cloudy Ice Cubes that are not clear will not show the
impression as well as a clean crisp Ice Cube. A 2" Square thick cube, even on all
sides, made of clear ice will have the best result. Commercially available clear ice cubes are recommended, or you can find many tips on the internet on how to create your own crystal clear Ice Cubes. At the end of the Day, an impression in an ice cube will
only last as long as the ice does not melt., but it's the smallest of details
that make the biggest of differences in a presentation.
Is the Stamp Food Safe? While
the Brass is not rated Food Safe, as a Safety Measure, we do apply a
double Food Safe Clear Coat to all areas of the Brass Die that is
exposed to Ice or Food
